“Turning Toward Autumn🪶

September 1, 2026

Artist’s hand working on a crowned bunting drawing in progress, part of the IMBOLC piece begun earlier in the year.

Work in progress for IMBOLC, first of The Wheel of the Year series. Now, as Autumn arrives, I look back to where the spark began ~ the heart’s warmth that started the turning of light.

“Autumn arrives quietly, but it changes everything”

September arrives with its quiet shift, that in‑between place where Summer thins and Autumn begins to breathe in. This year the change comes with momentum. I’ve started two new series at once. IMBOLC is the first completed piece in The Wheel of the Year, and the first piece in I Dream of Nanna’s Purse is almost finished. One rooted in seasonal turning, the other in memory and inheritance. Standing at the threshold of both feels like stepping into a deeper season of work.

The days are shortening now, and I’m relying more on artificial light to keep the drawing board bright. My best drawing hours are changing with the sun. At least the Summer allergies have finally eased. My eyes aren’t weeping over the paper quite so much. As the bloom fades, it leaves behind a small gift, clearer sight and steadier focus, oh and fewer tissues.

Autumn always feels like a settling of intention, and with two new series opening at once the season feels aligned. Endings giving way to beginnings, cycle repeats. Light thinning, but purpose sharpening.

And now Mabon comes in, for all you Pagan friends, carrying that familiar balance of dark and light.🪶
