I begin each drawing on black paper, allowing layered colored pencil to draw light out of the dark and give form to the symbols that guide the work.
I’m drawn to the subtle signs in nature. A fallen leaf, a snapped branch, a bird’s call. These gestures feel like messages, and I listen. My work lives in the space between reality and imagination, using symbolic elements chosen for their emotional resonance.
Birds appear throughout my work as watchers and messengers, grounded yet holding the quiet potential for flight. They hold layered meanings, freedom, vigilance, motherhood, mystery, and often serve as the symbolic voice at the heart of the piece.
Aged metal patinas and shining gold appear throughout my work as markers of rarity, ritual, and time. Their interplay reflects my interest in memory and transformation, anchoring each piece in a sense of continuity and enduring connection.
Some symbols carry a heavier human weight, a gold shoe, a worn boot, a length of chain. These objects introduce presence and consequence, adding complexity to the story and grounding the work in the realities we inherit and create.
