Mid-Summer Update🪶

Bound by Love - Freed by Life 2024

ā€œThat bird can’t fly away quite yetā€

Mid‑summer has been full in a way that feels like I am steady and showing progress.

The juried show is wrapping up and my entry piece has been living on that wall long enough that it almost feels like part of the building. I’ll be picking it up next week, most likely, after the show comes to a close this weekend.

It’s funny, after seeing it out in the world for a while, I realized I’m still not ready to let this piece go. That bird can’t fly away quite yet. Some pieces stay close until I feel something shift, and this one hasn’t shifted.

I’m back in the studio after some summer travel, getting my hands moving again. A few new pieces are finished and will debut soon, and I’ve been making more card versions, feels good.

My supplier’s online ordering system has been glitchy, which has made things a bit clunky, but it’s just one of those mildly annoying parts of working with materials in a world that insists on apps and updates.

Costs keep creeping upward too, so I’m taking a closer look at materials and making sure everything still lines up with what I want to create. Even with that, I’m still experimenting, still learning, still sharpening things. I’m also keeping an eye out for new places to share my work and my voice, new outlets, new opportunities, new corners where my art might land.

It feels like a very real stretch of summer, honest, productive, and moving forward in ways that feel right for where I am.

So for now, that bird stays with me, and I’m trusting myself to know when it’s finally ready to fly.🪶
