Process & Purpose
~Oracle of Feather Series
My drawings begin as compositions of found objects, photographs, and my quirky imagination. I first draw an outline of the composition onto black paper, then build the image by filling it in with layer upon layer of colored pencils. Through this careful layering, depth, texture, and contrast begin to emerge, as light rises out of shadow.
These drawings are spaces of reverence and reckoning — quiet rituals where mystery and transformation unfold.
~Style
I work in a symbolic realism style, blending realistic detail with elements that carry emotional and spiritual meaning. Everyday objects and natural forms are represented, then transformed through the addition of items that may include crowns, keys, eggs, feathers and chains as examples into vessels of ritual, memory, and imagination. This approach grounds the familiar in reality while opening space for reflection, mystery, and transformation.
~Birds as Messengers
Birds are a constant presence in my work, appearing as carriers of meaning — watchers, messengers, and guardians of the unseen. Frequently crowned, they hold symbolic stature, elevated in importance, ritual, and wisdom, as if entrusted with quiet truths.
They are not merely decorative and colorful forms, but they are living symbols of resilience, transformation, and the unseen connections between worlds.
In nature, even the simplest gestures speak: a leaf falling, a branch snapping, a bird’s note, or an empty robin’s eggshell. These moments are quiet messages, and I listen. Within my drawings, birds embody this language of subtle signs, guiding viewers toward reflection and deeper awareness.
